Jón Ingi Sigurmundsson has painted Icelandic landscapes for decades and held 59 solo exhibitions since 1983. Born in Eyrarbakki in 1934, he has developed a unique style that combines traditional oil paintings and the delicacy of watercolor paintings.
His works reflect a deep connection to Icelandic nature — dramatic mountains, peaceful valleys, and the ever-changing light that defines the Icelandic seasons. Despite being over ninety years old, he is still active in his studio and creates new works regularly.
Jón Ingi's works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and private collections and are part of many private collections both in Iceland and abroad.
Another Career
Before painting became his main profession, Jón Ingi taught music for over four decades, founded two choirs, and was the principal of Gagnfræðaskólinn in Selfoss.
